What does the client’s business do?

Our client provides the world’s most differentiated and complete portfolio of content, brands and franchises across television, film, streaming and gaming. 

Who was hired and what was their role?

Their team was looking for an experienced Assistant Manager, Accountant to cover their APAC offices.  The ideal candidate had an education background in accounting or finance plus 3-5 years of work experience as an accountant.  Furthermore, the candidate was required to have the internationally recognized CPA. They found Doris!

Responsibilities:

General Accounting:

  • Period Close Deliverables and Reporting.
  • Close calendar / Monthly P&L review and analysis Review and provision of variance analysis for month end results
  • Timely completion of month end deliverables relating to divisional responsibilities.
  • Coordination of treasury related functions for responsible countries.
  • Regular review and management of cash balances and accounts / facilities. This includes responsible for IC reconciliations and funds settlement.
  • Responsible and oversee accuracy of balance sheet reporting activity including review of balance sheet reconciliations and quarterly balance sheet footnote disclosures; conduct periodic balance sheet review updates with Finance partners.

Statutory Reporting:

  • Lead Statutory reporting for assigned territories.
  • Supporting third party provider on preparation and drafting of statutory accounts for all local reporting entities.
  • Coordinator and principal point of contact for external auditors.
  • Proactively manage internal audits and external filing process through on-going engagement and communication with direct manager and team.
  • Manage the annual statutory Financial Statement audits with PwC for various legal entities, ensuring compliance with local GAAP.
  • Coordinate between auditors (PwC), Controllership and local outsourced accounting firms to maintain a calendar of deliverables and deadlines for the company’s subsidiaries’ local statutory reporting requirements.

Areas of Accountability:

    • SME for Singapore/Taiwan/ China and Hong Kong statutory reporting and compliance.

What was the salary of the individual they hired?

Doris was hired for a monthly salary of about ¥21,000 RMB ($2,900 USD).

What was the candidate’s background before being hired?

Doris holds an ACCA and a bachelor’s degree in Business & Accounting from an international university. Furthermore, she has over 9 years of experience as an accountant both in China and overseas. She is fully bilingual in Mandarin and English.
